It’s once again part of the rally: Slowly Sideways“– The rolling rally museum

Also this year, a tasty visual and sonic titbit will get the spectators at the special stages in the right mood for the peloton. The interest group “Slowly Sideways” demonstrates with eleven historic rally vehicles in front 25 years of rally history. With its distinctive two-stroke tone, a Saab 96 of 1962 will break the first ground, a vehicle type with which the legendary Erik Carlsson established the fame of the Nordic men on European rally courses (“Erik-on-the-roof”). The Escort MK 1 that helped Ford to deeply entrench in rally sport since the late 60s, will be involved as well as brands like Opel (Kadett GTE/ Warmbold 1978, Ascona B/ Kleint 1979), Mercedes (450 SLC/ Safari Rallye 1979) and Porsche (“Almeras” –911 SC/ “Monnet” -924 GTS). The encounter with the grass-green “Rheila”-Golf (Stock/Schmuck 1981) will be a déjà vu for many “old” fans and the start of a resurrected Ex-Werks-Quattro (ex-factory?) in factory paint job (RAC 1982) brings back again the memory of the legendary times of Mouton and Audi. And if the spare parts for the Renault 5 Maxi Turbo (1986) from Wolfgang Langbehn will arrive in time prior to the start of the “Wikinger Rallye”, even the historical groups 2, 4 and B will be completely represented…
The members of “Slowly Sideways” around the well-known motorsport photographer Reinhard Klein (Cologne) set the goal, to preserve former factory cars (Werkswagen) with an international history and to present them at places, where the beauties are in good hands: not in the hall of a museum, but on the routes of a “true” rally.
Only vehicles that made history and match the original in terms of optics, coating and also technology will show up. That should preferably be original ex- factory cars, but also detailed replicas are allowed. Sure, that these teams will not participate in the official competition to compete for minimum times, yet the drivers feel obliged to show some spectacular drifts. Click here for more info…
